Solarindustrie

    Solar Industry

Solar energy (photovoltaics and solar thermal energy) is essential for our future energy supply. Regarding the production of PV modules, the Chinese share in all production stages is over 80 percent. Recently, China has made clear that it intends to use this European dependency for political and strategic purposes.

In order to increase the energy supply's resilience to global crises, there is an urgent need for a rapid reconstruction of the solar industry in Europe and Germany. Existing know-how must be revived and supported. We are working to speed-up the authorisation process for projects or production sites and to improve the financial framework conditions in a timely manner.

Even though the European solar industry shrank considerably after 2012, the competence for a technological top position still exists. Saxony in particular, with its strong companies and research institutions in the field of solar and microelectronics, is a first-rate cluster and a crystallisation core of the European solar industry. We want to advance the Saxon solar industry together other European companies and regions.

To this end, the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL) is in close exchange with solar industry, associations, the Federal Government, the EU Commission and other stakeholders.

European Solar PV Industry Alliance (ESIA)

In January 2023, the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture joined the European Solar PV Industry Alliance (ESIA) and is part of a working group there. Like the Network of European Solar Industry Regions (SIRE), ESIA aims to revitalize European solar industry. However, unlike SIRE with members from public institutions in the regions, ESIA's members are mainly industry.

On the initiative of the Saxon State Ministry for Energy, Climate Protection, Environment and Agriculture (SMEKUL), the Network of European Solar Industry Regions (SIRE) was founded in early 2023.
